Clever Ways to Redesign a Small Living Space

[ad_1]

Redesigning your home can update the energy in your space.

If you wish you could renovate your home but don’t have the time or money for a big project, adding new decor can be an ideal choice to change your home’s look.

When you have a small home, the way you redesign it is even more important to make the most of your space.

The following strategies to maximize your space include rethinking your storage, the colors you use, and adding light. Redesigning your space is especially helpful if you need to sell your home.

Pick Your Colors Wisely

Light is important for any home, but in a small home, it’s even more essential. Picking white or light colors for your sofa and glass or acetate for your coffee table or side table can create the illusion of more space.

Keeping walls light or white creates openness and can make even a dark room seem lighter.

Go Green

Plants are an easy design element for any home. In a small space, you can hang plants from the ceiling, put plants on top of shelves, or even create a wall of plants. Air plants are an ideal option for a small space because they don’t have roots and can be hung from nearly anywhere, without needing a pot or soil.

Go Minimal

When space is at a premium, decluttering is one of the most important tasks when you start out redesigning your space. Keeping surfaces clear and only having those furniture items that you truly need for storage and for sitting areas will ensure that you have a clear area to work with.

When decluttering, you can go through items by category and then sort them into keep, donate, and toss piles, only keeping those items that you are really using. Holding on to only the essential items can create spaciousness in your home.

Maximize Space for Walls and Furniture

Walls and furniture need to be used in more than one way when you have a small space. Walls can be used for storage with bookcases, or as a place to add light with sconces. Furniture can double as storage, with ottomans, coffee tables, or sofas with storage inside.

This can all free up floor space so that you can maintain a minimalist look. Think of adding shelves above a sofa or even around windows to create as much storage as you need, but just be sure you aren’t filling those shelves with clutter.

Add Sliding or Barn Doors

Open doors can take up space in a small home, and sliding, pocket, or barn doors can be a way to open up space while at the same time creating divisions for different rooms.

For example, a barn door, or sliding door can be used to separate a living area from a kitchen or create a separate dining area, or home office when you need privacy. Redesigning your home with defined areas can improve its flow and spaciousness.

Making the most of a small space is about maximizing your furniture and organization and adding light. Starting with decluttering can help you redesign a small space that is more pleasant to spend time in.
